Efficient and Accurate Electronic Patient Records
Engagement:
A large, regional clinical organization wanted to improve the efficiency and accuracy of its data entry, storage and retrieval of electronic patient records for its multi-location surgical and orthopedic practices. In addition, the organization wanted to create a software application HL7 interchange to transfer data from their associated Managed Care Organizations and their affiliated hospitals without errors while ensuring HIPAA compliance. This project encompassed multiple EMR application software programs, hardware and operating system platforms.
Solution:
We worked with our client's healthcare providers and their scheduling and billing department as well as with their Managed Care Organizations and hospital IT departments to complete an assessment, develop a systems improvement roadmap and recommend a solution. To complete the assessment and roadmap we also consulted with a number of software and hardware vendors to determine the best solution.
Assist One then developed, integrated and managed an HL7-compliant electronic medical records system and electronic health data interchange that initially migrated patient records from many different sources in a wide variety of formats into one database system that included error checking and audit tracking. A customizable desktop application provided the healthcare providers with a single view for all patient records information. The health data interchange ensured clinical, physician and hospital records management systems were updated automatically and maintained on a single platform that could be viewed by healthcare providers.
Results:
With this system, the client's business processes were significantly improved, which resulted in the healthcare providers spending more time with their patients since the patient records were readily available through a simple exam room login. In addition, the organization improved cash flow through quicker insurer and Medicare reimbursements and achieved greater profits because the number of scheduled appointments increased, while reducing the administrative time to file and collect payments.

Continuous Software Release and Update Strategy
Engagement:
A Radiology Imaging Management company engaged Assist One to evaluate their IT infrastructure and design an update software release strategy for end users in 47 states. This project encompassed both custom and commercial application software installations, multiple data center locations, SAN/WAN/LAN network infrastructures, advanced digital imaging technologies and FDA, HIPAA and HHS regulatory compliance.
Solution:
Assist One performed a complete IT infrastructure assessment with recommendations for improvements. We recommended a data center co-location to handle redundancy issues. We designed and worked with the client to implement a business continuity and disaster recovery management plan to further stabilize and enhance the integrity of their entire critical business and IT operations.
The implementation focused on a migration to an Oracle-based database management system that provided enhanced capabilities for deploying and maintaining the company's proprietary digital imaging technology across their 47-state customer base. This continuous software release strategy made extremely large digital files available on demand while ensuring FDA and HHS regulatory compliance. Additionally, Assist One modernized the proprietary desktop application software update and upgrade schedule by recommending client's systems development teams adopt a more progressive rapid application development (RAD) lifecycle model so that updates and upgrades were propagated as each change was tested and released.
Results:
As a result, the client's IT infrastructure, business processes and efficiency were significantly improved. Image delivery reliability and speed were increased and this improved end user satisfaction, reduced help desk calls and ensured systems compatibility on an ongoing basis.
